This article gives an overview of the main taxes that a property owner would need to deal with in Slovakia.<\/p>\n
Personal tax number<\/strong><\/p>\n Property owners must register themselves for tax within 30 days of the yearly rental income being greater than 500 EUR.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Property tax<\/strong><\/p>\n Properties must be registered for property tax by 31st<\/sup> January in the year after purchase. The tax usually amounts to less than 100 EUR\/yr.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Health insurance<\/strong><\/p>\n From 1st<\/sup> Jan 2011 property owners in Slovakia must pay health insurance, unless they have health insurance in another country. If proof is requested by the tax office a request must be made to the national health insurance company for a waiver and proof provided of such insurance in their home country.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Income tax on rents<\/strong><\/p>\n Income tax rate is 19%.<\/p>\n The tax year runs from 1st<\/sup> January to 31st<\/sup> December.<\/p>\n Income tax returns have to be filed by 31st<\/sup> March each year.<\/p>\n If yearly income is less than 925.95 EUR it is not required to file an income tax return.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Property sales tax<\/strong><\/p>\n Slovakian Property Transfer Tax was abolished on 1st January 2005.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Capital gains tax<\/strong><\/p>\n Technically there is no such thing as capital gains tax in Slovakia. Any capital gains are treated as income which is taxed at 19%.<\/p>\n For non-residents, there is no capital gains tax on property if the property is held for five years or more.
